This time, Zonie traffic slowed by Californian
I was driving on Dead Cow Road between Gila Bend and Maricopa the other day when I got behind a long line of vehicles. We were traveling more like we were in a funeral procession than commuting on the highway.
One by one, we all passed the lead vehicle that was moving too slowly for us, an SUV with California plates.
That was a switch: I'm used to seeing Californians pass me by, at least on roads of theirs that I drive for the first time. I couldn't help wondering if the driver had ever honked at any of us vacationing “Zonies” for driving so tentatively in her state.
In this case, the shoe seemed to be on the other foot — the foot that was nursing the gas pedal ever so cautiously on Dead Cow Road.
