Have churches failed nation?

The foundation of the U.S. Constitution is built upon the principles and values found in the Holy Bible. Indeed many of our country's leaders, including George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, were men of faith and lived their lives in accordance with the teachings of the Scriptures.

John Adams, our second president, wrote in a letter dated June 21, 1777, “It is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand.”

Notable in that equation are the principles of honesty, equal opportunity, religious freedom, the sanctity of life, individual freedom and a strong family and work ethic. All of these are values taught by the “church.”

The 2012 election was clearly about the future direction of our nation. President Obama said in a general election campaign ad “in this election we have two clear choices.” I said to myself, he is absolutely correct.

I don't recall the president defining those choices, but I did. Either we elect leaders whose policies promote honesty, equal opportunity, religious freedom, sanctity of life, individual freedom and a strong family and work ethic or we continue down the current path away from those principles.

So what happened on Election Day? For the first time in the history our nation, we chose the path that ignores the principles of religion and morality upon which our freedom stands.

The question is why did we choose that path? Have the churches of our nation failed to effectively declare these moral and religious principles, or have we the people of the church failed to clearly share and live by example these principles necessary to preserve our nation? You decide.
