Fortuna Road drivers can be dangerous

Why is it that drivers on Fortuna Road have such a hard time grasping the concept of direction of travel lanes on our roadways? In this country, we drive on the right-hand side of the road with a yellow line down the center to indicate a separation for opposing traffic. In the last few months, I have witnessed people on Fortuna driving all over the place: right side, left side, hay-diddle-diddle right down the middle through opposing left-hand turn lanes.

Yesterday, I was almost involved in a head-on collision when a driver crossed into my dedicated left-turn lane, against traffic, in order to make an illegal turn into Frys; and she was very upset that I didn't get out of her way. This seems to be a favorite trick of stupid people. I guess they're too distracted by that big “Do Not Enter” sign. I'd ask why the Yuma County Sheriff's Office can't do something about this, but enforcing the traffic laws on Fortuna Road at this time of year would be a full-time job for one deputy and they're spread pretty thin. Folks, it's very simple: the yellow line goes on the left side of the vehicle and the white line goes on the right. And if the writing on the road is upside down, you're going the wrong way!
