Many films much funnier than "Airplane!"
A story the other day proclaimed “Airplane!” as the funniest film ever.
It included a list of the Top 10 films with the highest “laugh a minute” scores.
Oddly, not one of the movies I consider the funniest ever was on the list.
I sure don't consider “Airplane!” the funniest. It's OK, but it didn't even nudge the needle on my own laugh meter.
As a matter of fact, on another highly regarded list of the funniest films of all time, “Airplane!” came in 47th.
I judge a film by if it's made me laugh uncontrollably, causing me to sweat and my asthma to kick in, and following that criteria, the funniest film ever is “Animal House.” That classic is followed by “Caddyshack,” “Christmas Vacation,” “The Bad News Bears” (original version), the first half of “Stripes,” “Trading Places,” “The Great Outdoors,” “Big,” “Ferris Bueller's Day Off” and “Grumpy Old Men.”
All great stuff and laughs. Toga! Toga!
