Jessup has given 45 years to Girl Scouts

I congratulate all of those who were nominated and received the prestigious "Heart of Yuma" awards.

Girl Scouts in Yuma has particularly benefited from the volunteer work of almost 45 years of Sharon Jessup. Working with young people through Scouting has been Sharon's passion. In recent Yuma Sun articles, there has been no mention of her 45 years of volunteerism with Girl Scouts, only the Boy Scout program has been mentioned. This was concerning to me, given all of the years Sharon has dedicated to girls and Girl Scouts in Yuma County.

Sharon served the Yuma Rio Colorado Service Unit as volunteer director for eight years. She also is certified as a Master Trainer, has been a troop leader and events coordinator, was chairman of our 50th anniversary celebration (Girl Scouts in Yuma). She began the canoeing program for Yuma Girl Scouts and was the recipient of the thanks badge, the highest award given by Girl Scouts of the U.S.A.
