GOP opponents also love nation
This letter is in response to the ads and ad inserts the Yuma County Republican Committee has placed in the Yuma Sun for the past few weeks. In the ad, the GOP tells readers to vote for the “candidates that love America and Americans.”
The implication is that GOP candidates' opponents do not love America or Americans. This is neither accurate nor helpful.
Whenever I have a conversation with a differently minded friend, I might think they are ill-informed or that they have a different life experience, but it never once occurs to me that they don't love our country. We all believe that our own views represent the best way forward for our country. The actual best path will probably be found somewhere in the middle, like it has for most of our nation's history.
I won't get into which candidates are the ones to vote for. Some of those featured in the GOP ads already have my vote and some don't.
This national election will likely be very closely decided. The ads imply that half of the electorate doesn't love our nation, which cannot possibly be true. When a key Republican tactic has been to lament the divisiveness in our political system while denying they play any part in it, these ads only highlight the hypocrisy in that claim.
