    Governor ignores fiscal responsibility

    Comments 0 | Recommend 0

The Yuma Sun's editorial on June 30 claiming our Legislature and governor are in a game of "chicken" over the budget misses the basic issue.

We are in a recession with unemployment continuing to increase and reduced tax revenue receipts. From my perspective, the Republican members of the Legislature understand our economic problem and offer an honest solution to the revenue problem.

The governor on the other hand is focused only on any proposal designed to retain the current level of program funding.

Far too many of our liberal politicians failed Economics 101 in college or did not take this course as part of their education. We are subjected to taxes every day of our lives and they are going beyond the reasonable and arriving at an obscene level.

To demand a sales tax increase to satisfy the governor’s agenda indicates to me she is unreasonable, spoiled and ignores fiscal reality of our state and federal economy.

The state should be expected to respond to a shortage of revenue the same way we are forced to with our own family budget due to reduced income. We change our lifestyle. Why can’t the state do the same?
