Too late to stop gun violence
For the past 50 or 60 years, gun nuts driven by the National Rifle Association have infested the public discourse of our nation. Misinformation piled on top of misplaced “fear of government” has been driven by the libertarian branch of the Republican Party, most famously fostered by President Ronald Reagan's irrational campaign of “the government is the problem.”
So we now have hundreds of millions of guns in private hands, which at this point gives access to anyone and everyone to everything from high tech handguns to military assault weapons. The designed purpose of these guns is none other than to kill people. With such access, anyone with a misguided fear or mental issues can and will continue to create massacre after massacre.
It's too late. At this point no amount of gun control laws can have any chance of changing anything.
The only way ordinary folks can have any comfort from the threat of this menace is based in math. Just like it's unlikely you will win a large lottery prize, so too it's unlikely it will be you or your children who are slaughtered by this insane culture.
