The problem is more than the guns
As we enter the new year, there is talk about wanting to arm principals, other administrators and teachers at our schools with guns.
Really? My thought is no matter how many guns or people with guns we put on our campuses, there is no guarantee that we won't experience another Sandy Hook Elementary School, Virginia Tech or Columbine High School tragedy.
Think about it. For an armed official to stop an armed intruder, the odds are 50/50. Who is to say an intruder won't shoot and kill anyone and everyone who confronts them first?
What we need to do is take a hard look at ourselves. For example, while eating lunch I noticed a video game that features a rifle with a scope. It's a killing game, and there, trying to play, was a youngster who was not tall enough to get a grip on the rifle, but was trying hard to make it happen.
And I thought to myself, “This is where it starts.”
