Don't be misled by Proposition 202

Voting no on the deceptively titled Proposition 202 ("Stop Illegal Hiring" - no, it promotes illegal hiring) will maintain Arizona as a state willing to say "yes" to American workers and no to illegal aliens and their illegal employers.

The Sun's Oct. 17 editorial supports Prop 202 - is it possible they belong to the "open borders" crowd that have pushed the catastrophic overburdening of our social, medical, environmental and educational systems? How can anyone not see the economic destruction to legal citizens caused by the employment of illegal immigrants in Arizona?

The current Arizona law merely requires business owners operating within the state to verify the legal status of all new hires. Under that law, businesses risk losing their state and local licenses if they "intentionally" employ undocumented workers.

Likewise, the current law requires businesses to verify the eligibility of all newly-hired employees by using the Department of Homeland Security's "E-Verify" system.

Thousands of illegals moved out of the state when this law took effect. The E-Verify system works great (99.7 percent instant accuracy), and we all know the definitions of "intentionally" and "knowingly," so where is the problem?

The people pushing this proposition want to "gut" the current law for their own personal financial gain by mandating that the state can act "only" after the federal government has prosecuted an employer. If that 20-year-old federal system worked, we wouldn't need state laws, but the Federal I-9 system does "not" work.

By eliminating the requirement that employers use E-Verify and by eliminating anonymous complaints (the "anonymous" reporting of this crime is no different than crimes reported via programs like "Silent Witness") will undermine the law.

Don't fall for this misleading propaganda. Protect Arizona now by voting "no" on Prop 202.
