Pro, con arena information needed
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Will Rogers said something like, "All I know is what I read in the newspaper." That pretty well sums up my information on the proposed arena project and why I have a few misgivings.
We are told that Global Entertainment knocked on Yuma's door in an attempt to sell an arena. There is no information that Yuma contacted Global. When someone approaches you with something to sell, be it a vacuum cleaner or an arena, chances are very good that they stand to profit more than you will. After the sales pitch, you are often conflicted regarding how much of the presentation was truth and how much just sales hype.
I read there was a $75,000 feasibility study. Do we know if it was conducted by an independent agent or was Global involved? Would Global or a subsidiary do the construction? I believe I read that Global would also manage the arena operation. Oh I almost forgot, Yuma would get to pay all of the bills.
Before the city spends $53 million or much more - how often are projects completed with out huge cost overrides - perhaps an independent auditor could look at Global's books and history. Is there an abandoned arena or two out there somewhere?
Hopefully, before the election, The Sun will be able to provide the voters with enough information, pro and con, to make an enlightened vote.
