Things that are turning 30
I was reading a story on MentalFloss.com that looked at things that were turning 30 this year, and the list was interesting.
Take, for example, the Chicken McNugget at McDonald's. It was created in 1979, but didn't go nationwide until 1983.
It was a big year for electronics too, with the release of the camcorder, the Mario Bros. arcade game, AOL, the Apple IIe personal computer and Microsoft Word. Interesting sidenote there: the first demos were released on a floppy disk bundled within a magazine – PC World.
Also on the list? The game Plinko from “The Price is Right,” and Michael Jackson's signature moonwalk.
There were many iconic items from my childhood on the list, too: My Little Pony, Cabbage Patch Kids, Care Bears, and the TV show “Reading Rainbow.” Interestingly, My Little Pony and Care Bears have made a resurgence in recent years with little kids. Maybe it's nostalgic parents passing their favorite toys on to their kids.
