Feral cats have an upside
I found the editorial about cats vs. birds most interesting, but it would have been better reading with a few more facts: how many more birds are killed by airplanes vs. cats?
One statistic does little good without another. And, exactly how many birds from the city are lurking in the wetlands, particularly since cats don't like being “wet?”
Frankly, I like the feral cats visiting my yard. I have a few shade trees and the flocks of birds who took them over ruined my yard – and furniture – with their filthy, and possibly infectious droppings. Since a few neighborhood cats started hunting the birds, my yard is once again usable and the mice and cockroaches are kept at bay. We can now sit outside and enjoy our yard minus the disgusting bird feces we used to spend hours cleaning up after.
Who is to say one species is more valuable than another?
