Misinformation is being spread
I find myself completely and utterly shocked at the amount of misinformation coming from so many in this country.
An example is Whit Moss’ “Building mosque terrorist takeover” letter that was printed Aug. 24.
The Christian morals that may have, in his mind, founded this country aren’t what this country should be based on. The nation’s forefathers came here to escape religious persecution — they sought religious freedom.
There has been so much misinformation about the masjid (the correct term, not the defamatory “mosque”) in New York. It’s not on the actual site (“ground zero”), but of course if opponents didn’t mislead America and say it was, then it wouldn’t be much of a story. Actually, there’s not even an attempted memorial there yet. If it was that important — which it is — wouldn’t there be a memorial up by now?
I know funding works slow but it has been almost nine years.
The letter writer’s barbs shouldn’t be thrown at us — they should be thrown at whomever is responsible for funding and building the memorial. Where’s that outrage?
If we are to categorize terrorism, then let us include the Christians for their mercenary work that started in Africa that resulted in slavery and the slave trade, or the many killed in the name of Christ over hundreds of years, or the Germans who terrorized Jewish people during WWII.
Shall we further generalize and say if a masjid is not allowed near anything remotely reminiscent of ground zero and anything relating to 9/11, then Catholic churches shouldn’t be built near day-care centers or schools. Because we all know if all Muslims are terrorists then what are all priests?
But that’s not a fair assumption and it’s not an assumption based on facts. Generalizations are simply that, you’re basing something off of what you think is correct and wrongly assuming things.
The comment about color basically summed up Moss’ view. Dark skin doesn’t mean black to him so maybe he should understand that hijab and Arabic and Islam doesn’t equal terrorism. I wonder what he thinks about the masjid that’s at the Pentagon.
Check the facts — the majority of victims from fundamentalist Islamics have been us, Muslims, Arabs in their own country. There are fundamentalists in every religion, Maybe he should check history before bragging about morals and how this nation was founded.
You know, like smallpox blankets to wipe out Native Americans, our ideas of Manifest Destiny, our high sexual disease rate, the second highest AIDS rate in the world and high teen pregnancy rate. Morals? I think not.
