Common sense disappears in office

If the Department of Homeland Security is now turning loose illegal immigrants, I wonder how is it that they are expecting to get re-elected to office? I know for a fact I am not voting for these people again, even if they were to run for dog catcher. I wonder what happens to their common sense once they are elected to office?
