First Take brought back great memories
As I read Mr. Olivas' First Take column in Friday's paper, it brought back some fond memories of my departed father, Milton Hagedorn. Dad was a good old boy of German descent that grew up in the rolling hills of western Texas. Growing up in a German-speaking family and playing with the children of the Hispanic farm workers, he entered school speaking German and Spanish, but no English. Many was the time he would surprise someone speaking Spanish by joining in himself. Dad had a good sense of humor and if he were in the same situation as Mr. Olivas, I believe he would have waited until the haircut was finished and would thank the barber as he paid with “Gracias por arreglar mi gallo como el pelo.” (Thank you for fixing my rooster-like hair - if the Spanish grammar is wrong, blame Google Translator) and then quietly walked out the door.
As always Yuma, have a great day in the best town in Arizona.
M Terry Hagedorn
