Solar power has place in Arizona
I read with interest Russell McCloud’s take on solar power, and in particular Aqua Caliente near Dateland. In it he seems to be having second thoughts about solar power because “there is very little benefit for us once you factor everything in.”
He also questions the wisdom of taking agricultural land out of production.
While all of these concerns are things that need considered I am concerned that he did not address them prior to voting to approve the variance that allowed Aqua Caliente to be built during the Board of Supervisor’s meeting on Aug. 9, 2009.
He must not have spent enough time researching the pros and cons of this large project. Or perhaps the article is his first shot in his bid for re-election in 2012.
I personally want to see solar power developed in Arizona and I would like to see the panels built in Yuma County and exported to other states and countries.
This will not be accomplished overnight but will need to be done by those that will invest the time to advance the future of Yuma County.
