Muslim prayer claim not true

I would like to correct Alfred Green (Yuma Sun, Nov. 24) on a statement he made that the Democrats “wanted to open the convention with a Muslim prayer.” That statement is wrong and Green should be ashamed of himself to insert that kind of lie in his letter to the editor.

It is statements like this that fuel the hatred in the radical right. It is the responsibility of good Christians to bring people together in harmony, regardless of their beliefs, not to spread lies that only serve to further the divide.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan gave the closing prayer at the DNC as he did at the RNC in Tampa. He made it clear that he was there as a pastor and not to endorse any candidate, platform or cause. Perhaps Green could learn something from this man of God.

There was a gathering of Muslims in Charlotte that week, but it was one of a thousand such gatherings that were not connected to the convention and not endorsed by the DNCC.
