Agency in desperate need for shop volunteers

Ten months ago, Amberly's Place opened up a Thrift Shoppe at 812 S. Avenue A in hopes of providing a nice place for the victims to whom we provide services to shop for needed clothes and household items for free. The store is also open to the public with very competitive prices, and the funds raised from the community go back to pay for the operation of the store as well as the emergency needs of the victims we serve.

We are in desperate need of volunteers to keep this store going. The wonderful dedicated group we have now is a very small group, considering how many we really need. People call with donations and need us to pick them up, but because we don't have a dedicated group of volunteers to do this, sometimes we lose those donations.

We need men and women who are wanting to make an impact for the good in our community who are willing to give a few hours each week to pick up and sort donations or work in the store. It will be a positive rewarding experience, I can promise you that.

One victim who went to the store to get clothes for court and a job interview stated the volunteers at the store made her feel like a princess as she picked out her clothes. She said, “When I feel down, I am going to go to the Thrift Shoppe just to get my spirits lifted.” So please come help us lift spirits and give hope to victims of abuse. It is as simple as a call to 329-2989, just ask for Angela to volunteer and give hope.
