Why don't we already have recycling here?
The Sept. 10 article in the Yuma Sun about recycling made me wonder why we don't already have it here. We came from a small town in the middle of nowhere, and we had recycling there already and have had for a number of years. It's hard to believe a place as big as Yuma doesn't already have it.
It was a separate garbage can like we're discussing having here, and we put everything that was recyclable in it. Because so much is recyclable, our rates actually went down, as we got a credit each month on our bill depending on how much they got from the recycling company.
It wasn't much, but it never cost us more for our garbage service. We actually reduced our garbage service from once a week to twice a month (it's a choice there) with recycling every week, because recycling took so much out of our garbage can every week.
We will not have trash overflowing like the article says some of us worry about if we only have garbage pickup once a week. Really, more goes into the recycle can than into the garbage can, so it won't happen. You'll be a amazed how much you recycle if it's as easy as having a separate can.
It's a win-win for everyone. Come on, everyone, get behind it. This is such an easy way to do it for everyone, it's a no-brainer.
