Unborn children have rights, too

This is in response to the recent editorial published: “On anniversary of Roe v. Wade, access to abortion getting harder.” The author expressed concern that women in Arizona are facing restrictions on abortion which is making it difficult for them to exercise their “right to choose.”

The author failed to mention any information on the rights of unborn children. Since abortion became legalized in 1973, 54.5 million babies have been surgically aborted in the United States; this figure does not include drug-induced abortions. The numbers have declined to 1.2 million per year or 3,288 per day in recent years.

With the improvement of ultrasound technology and other scientific advances people are able to see that a baby at only a few weeks has a human shape. Scientific evidence confirms that an unborn baby can feel pain at any age.

As a result of this increased knowledge, more states have passed legislation in the last four years restricting abortion than in the previous 35 years combined.

As a nation we have experienced great sorrow, and rightly so, over the killing of 20 Connecticut school children, yet we go about our everyday life giving little thought to over 3,000 innocent babies being aborted daily. Why does a child that is born have more value than one which is in the womb? I pray for the hearts of mothers and fathers to be turned toward their unborn children, just as their parents did to them.
