Fortuna Road not right either

Mayor Larry Nelson, Councilman Paul Johnson and the residents of the Bluffs and Cresta Gila Estates subdivisions that border Araby Road north of Interstate 8 are rightfully opposed to traffic from SR 195 - also known as the Area Service Highway - traveling through their part of the city to connect with US 95.

But they appear fine with the notion of sending all those trucks east on I-8 then north on Fortuna Road, either as a permanent connecting route to US 95 or as a temporary solution until an alternative roadway can be constructed along the A Canal (if it ever does gets built).

This is the height of hypocrisy and an excellent illustration of the NIMBY mentality - "not in my back yard" but rather in somebody else's.

Why do they support Fortuna Road and not Avenue 3E, for instance? Because it's in the county, not the city, and the residents on both sides of the freeway who will be affected by this decision do not matter because they can't vote for mayor or city council.

Only Supervisor Casey Prochaska and one lone resident of the Wildflower subdivision stood to speak against this silly Fortuna Road alternative at the recent ADOT public information meeting.
