Where is school funding going?

On a recent front page of the Yuma Sun there was a wonderful article about an 11-year-old girl in the sixth grade and her unselfish wish to help her science class get new science books because the ones that she was using were a year older than she is and were falling apart.

Her teacher, Karen Rhodes, is apparently a shining example of what we hope our teachers are and spends time taping the books back together. However, this is not something she should have to do.

It is shameful that with all the money we spend on education it should ever be necessary for Amulya Doniparthi at the tender age of 11 to provide books for her science class. This is something that the school should be doing but it obviously isn't.

Where is the money that is being spent on education going? Apparently the funding is not going to the classrooms where the children and the teachers need it.

The administration is responsible for prioritizing the allocation of educational funds so they should be able to explain why textbooks have not been replaced in more than a decade.
