Many helped with cancer fundraiser
Comments 0 | Recommend 0A grand total of $987.75 was sent to Susan G. Komen for the Cure from the first Scrap Pink™ event in Yuma and it certainly couldn't have been accomplished without the participation of many local businesses and individuals.
Scrapbooking participants were treated to a delicious dinner from Da Boyz and lunch from Las Palapas as well as an awesome game of cosmic (glow-in-the-dark) golf from ZPS Indoor Miniature Golf.
Karen Nady, Treva Taylor and Pam Garcia from the Mammography Dept. at YRMC treated the group to a fantastic presentation on breast cancer awareness and local treatment options.
Throughout the day give-aways and a silent auction kept our scrapbookers on their toes with goodies donated by BLT Companies, Z93/KJOK, YRMC, Renee Dinwiddie-Blue Cross, Curves (Foothills), Uppercase Living-Jenny Sulpizio, Southern Living at Home-Karen Hershkowitz, The Shopping Nest, Little Stitches-Janet Cox, Cookie Lee-Pauline Weiland and Silpada-Sandy Cathers.
Donations were also received from Basket Creations and More, Fortuna Floral, Gold Canyon Candles-Dorrie Papp and Julie Moreno, Ready, Set, Create Magazine, Events Everlasting, Jennifer Blackwell Photography, Holly Padilla, Jennifer Matthews, Kathleen Bickel and Rita Ortiz.
Additional items and awareness for the event were donated by Laura Dunn, Julie Evans, Kaye Templeman, Connie Campbell, Peggy Hampton, Ann Willer, Michelle Norris, KYMA and the Yuma Sun, among others.
The cure for breast cancer is attainable and we are proud to have taken a part in its demise. The enthusiasm of this year's participants has encouraged us to begin planning our second annual Scrap Pink for fall 2010. Thank you, Yuma, for your unending generosity and care!
