General shows that he cares
Thank you to Maj. Gen. Genaro Dellarocco for caring about and for our country’s veterans (“YPG commanding general visits area veterans clinics,” Yuma Sun, Feb. 4). His forethought about those of us who live in rural areas and especially those who require assistance and medical treatment is spot-on!
I am a winter visitor and retired disabled Air Force veteran who lives in a rural town in Iowa.
The closest community-based out-patient clinic (CBOC) to me is 60 miles away (in Sioux City) or 70 miles (in Fort Dodge); the closest VA medical facility is 110 miles (in Omaha), 130 miles (in Des Moines) or 140 miles (in Sioux Falls).
To my knowledge, what Dellarocco has done has not happened in those locations although there are two Air National Guard facilities and an Air Force base in close proximity. If it has happened, it did not receive the front page, headline coverage it was given in your publication.
Dellarocco’s action should be a model to other commanding officers (regardless of rank) around the country.
So, a big thank you to the general and to your news staff. Thank you both for caring.
