Need is here for transportation hub
For some time now, the city of Yuma has been looking at the creation of a transportation hub. That is, city bus, train, Greyhound/commercial bus, taxi, etc.
The need is certainly there. One of the several problems is the lack of interest by Amtrak. The Yuma train station is almost nonexistent. Having to go under the tunnel to board the train at 2 a.m. is certainly unacceptable. Many folks don’t even realize we have train service in Yuma. The cost of flying into Yuma keeps many from using the airport, so we certainly need to encourage the airlines to correct that. It is also very difficult to fly anywhere as the restrictions on luggage, frisking of customers and certainly the weather causes many to seek other means to travel.
I would urge the city to combine all the transportation systems, coming in and out of Yuma, to work hand in hand with each other — Chamber of Commerce, bus, air, taxi and most of all, Amtrak — to create a working system that would provide not only residents of Yuma but the thousands of winter visitors and vacation travelers a true picture of our great city and all it has to offer.
Perhaps those who agree with this letter should let the city and all connected with our transport system know how much it would be appreciated and needed.
