Great photo of trees had ironic timing

Thank you for the recent great photo in the Yuma Sun of the cottonwood trees in East Wetlands Park. The timing was just is too ironic to not be mentioned.

Five years ago, the Welcome Neighbors and Newcomers Club had Tina Clark as a guest speaker at their evening potluck dinner. She presented information about the restoration of the wetlands along the Colorado River. The members of the club were so impressed that they collected enough money to have a grove of trees planted with a marker identifying the club as donor. It was impressive to see the trees had grown from twigs to mature trees in five years.

Feb. 16 we again have Tina Clark from the Centennial Heritage Area scheduled to speak on the progress of the restoration and the happenings for the Arizona Centennial celebration. Incidentally, this article appeared the same week that our club gave their yearly donations to several community charities, with information regarding the upcoming donations to other projects throughout the community.

Welcome Neighbors and Newcomers has many functions besides donating to the community, such as helping new women assimilate into the happenings of Yuma and supporting those who need friendship when dealing with tough life experiences. Ladies may attend the luncheon but please call Peggy Munger (345-3020) for a reservation so that you get lunch.

Thanks again to the Yuma Sun for the great photo.
