Plea for yes vote on arena
Comments 0 | Recommend 0City of Yuma residents should vote "yes" on Proposition 400 this election year.
I am a recent transplant from Phoenix. I moved here for a great job opportunity. I think Yuma is a wonderful little city with a lot of potential.
However, I do miss the sports teams, cultural activities (museums, concerts, expos, plays) and night life that Phoenix has to offer. I think Yuma is a growing city and I am excited to see what it has to offer in the future.
Unfortunately, I cannot vote on Proposition 400 this election year because I live outside the city limits in the Foothills. This is the very reason I am reaching out to the paper to express my request to Yuma residents to vote "yes" on 400 to have an arena built here in Yuma. Building an arena could only be a positive attribute for the city of Yuma.
Here's why in a nutshell. For those of you with children, this arena would provide a fun and safer way for your children to hang out together. Children need outlets and, unfortunately, in a city that does not have many options, children may choose other ways to spend their time.
Having a multi-purpose sporting facility would give your children what they need to have filling their time - watch hockey, or see a musical, or possibly even Disney on Ice, the possibilities are limitless.
Building an arena would help provide more opportunities for everyone. I watched the city of Glendale, Ariz. change when they built the Arizona Cardinals arena. The city of Glendale morphed into a bustling community that had restaurants and shops and provided an entertainment district of sorts to the people of Glendale. Glendale became a destination spot, and it had never been that before the arena was built.
I want the city of Yuma to become that destination spot. With the great weather and the affordable cost of living, it will be just that. Please vote "yes" on Proposition 400 this election year and help the city of Yuma continue to thrive and become a bustling community with so much to offer!
