How widespread is fire district backing?
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The proponents of a Foothills fire district state there is widespread agreement with the plan. How "widespread" is the agreement? Has anyone canvassed Foothills residents to learn their opinions? Those I have spoken with consider the project potentially prohibitively expensive, unnecessary and arbitrary.
The inference has been that Rural/Metro is capricious and undependable, liable to withdraw its services like a spoiled child in a fit of pique. On the contrary, in the years we've been residents of the Foothills (since 1983), Rural/Metro has been consistently dependable. We chose to subscribe to both the fire and ambulance services they offer.
That's the crux of the matter: choice. If this proposal is forced on us, we have no choice. We'll pay taxes that will very possibly be much more than our subscription fees cost us now.
Will we have an opportunity to vote on this matter? Will all the property owners who will be taxed benefit from this service? Will all get to vote?
Do I understand that medical response is a legal requirement when fire trucks go on calls? If that is the case, EMT's and ambulances will be another expense to obtain and maintain - and to staff.
Obviously, this household does not subscribe to the "widespread" agreement touted by the proponents of the Foothills fire district.
