Yuma County votes away representation
I did a little math this morning to see what the results would have been with some shifting of votes in the Arizona state representative Republican race in District 13 for Arizona state representative.
First, I must say that I am assuming that an earlier letter to the editor is correct in stating that candidates Darin Mitchell and Steve Montenegro do not reside in Yuma County.
Now for the math. Russ Jones received 3,787 votes in Yuma County (YC) and an additional 2,802 votes from outside Yuma County (OYC). Darin Mitchell received 2,613 votes in YC and an additional 4,473 OYC. Steve Montenegro received 2,813 votes in YC and an additional 5,604 votes OYC.
If all of the Yuma County votes had gone to Russ, he would have received a total of 12,015 votes with Darin receiving 4,473 and Steve receiving 5,604.
I can only wonder why a Yuma County voter would vote for a non-Yuma County resident.
