Ongoing problems with bus service
OK, it has been a while since I've vented about the YCAT buses. I have complained to the “powers that be” regularly but it still hasn't worked out its kinks.
I got off work every day at 3:30 p.m. recently and did not get home until after dark (6:30-7 p.m.) each night for a week! In a town this size, it should NOT take three hours to get me across town. Bus breakdowns and buses being late for whatever reasons are the excuses I'm given when I ask the ultimate question, “When will the bus be here?”
There are only a few people who work the phones at YCAT who seem knowledgeable, and oftentimes I am given wrong information. This is all very irritating and extremely inconvenient. The buses are supposed to there for the riders' convenience, but not at YCAT.
They seem to want to blame Mayor Al Krieger and the Yuma City Council. I too blame them to a point, I know it's because of them that YCAT had to vacate the Yuma Palms and relocate to the corner of Gila and 3rd Street. The hotel hasn't been funded for rehab yet but they have had jail workers out there painting the bottom half.
A city worker who said he was in charge of this stage of the work said that was all they could do for right now without the federal grant. In the meantime we have two portable toilets and no lighting until they get THAT fixed. Grim, very grim.
I am just very unhappy with the whole thing. I am from San Diego originally where I rode the bus for years, and never was one late, I never had to hear the company's woes, and the drivers all spoke English!
I really don't want to hear back from the bus company - all I ever hear are vague answers like, “I'll see what I can do.” And quite frankly, I am tired, very tired of hearing the same old thing.
