Quotation not by Shakespeare
An Oct. 26 letter to the editor featured a quote attributed to Shakespeare. It read, “Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.”
If Shakespeare had written it the cadence would have been smoother. He would have said, “Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.” Which is what Sir Walter Scott did indeed say instead of Shakespeare.
Which reminds me: Who wrote “A little learning is a dangerous thing”? Was it Pope Alexander or Alexander Pope?
