A fire broke out in the attic of a Yuma home in the 8500 block of South Shannon Way early Saturday morning, causing the roof to cave in. Rural/Metro spokeswoman Charly McMurdie reported that the residents had left after their home lost power Friday evening due to the storm. They were not home when the fire started. The fire was reported by a neighbor at about 6:25 a.m. and Rural/Metro arrived on scene shortly afterward, extinguishing the fire by about 11 a.m. The Red Cross was called to assist the family. The cause of the fire is under investigation and not believed to be storm-related at this time.
