An exercise in cooperation and aid

Some Yuma-based Marines had the opportunity to travel to Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Republic of the Philippines in April for Exercise Balikatan 2012, an annual bilateral training exercise between Philippine and U.S. military members through humanitarian civic assistance, disaster relief and field training activities.
Armed Forces of the Philippine and U.S. military members conduct vision checks with local community members and, if needed, provide free eye glasses during a medical civic assistance project (MEDCAP) at Kandis Elementary School as a part of Exercise Balikatan 2012 (BK12) in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Republic of the Philippines on April 17, 2012. BK12 is an annual bilateral training exercise that enhances Philippine and U.S. military member interoperability during humanitarian and disaster relief operations in addition to contingency and joint planning readiness.
