In some upstate areas of New York, snow fell early Friday morning and was expected to increase throughout the day, with the heaviest accumulations expected in eastern part of the state on Friday night. A strong Noreaster is expected to dump up to two to three feet of snow on the New England states. Mass. Gov. Deval Patrick declared a state of emergency Friday and banned travel on roads as of 4 p.m. as a blizzard that could bring nearly 3 feet of snow to the region began to intensify.
