In 1949, Bob Woodhouse and Woody Jongeward flew an Aeronca Sedan called "The City of Yuma" into history. The pair broke the world record for flying a single-engine aircraft nonstop from Aug. 24 to Oct. 10. The 47-day flight drew international media attention to Yuma's 365 flying days a year, influencing Yuma's current military and aviation presence.
