Shamrocks fall in Section I semifinal
The Yuma Catholic boys basketball game had a rough shooting night Friday and fell 65-57 to Arizona Lutheran in an Arizona Interscholastic Association Division IV Section I semifinal.
Sophomore point guard Carter Rodriguez finished with 26 points and nine assists with just one turnover in the loss.
“He couldn't have played any better,” Yuma Catholic coach Brooks Neumann said.
The Shamrocks (18-2 in AIA Power Point games) trailed 25-24 at halftime, took the lead in the third quarter but didn't make plays down the stretch and were forced to foul the Coyotes, who tacked on free throws late.
“We really didn't shoot the ball very well and they played well,” Neumann said about the Coyotes. “We looked a little bit out of sync today.”
Yuma Catholic will still make the Division IV state tournament and the bracket comes out on Sunday.
