Scorpions lose series to Armada

Yuma completed its four-game series with a 3-2 extra-innings loss to the Long Beach Armada on Friday.
 
Josh Womack doubled home catcher Andy Bouchie in the bottom of the 11th inning to end the game.
 
Yuma reliever Emiliano Fruto, who entered the game in the bottom of the inning, faced three batters and took the loss. He gave up two hits and and a walk. Bouchie reached on single.
 
Long Beach (16-16) won three of four from visiting Yuma (10-23).
 
The Scorpions return to Desert Sun Stadium for a three-game homestand, beginning at 7 p.m. tonight against North Division leading Calgary Vipers (21-13). A fireworks show will take place after the game.
 
The series concludes with a doubleheader on Sunday, first pitch at 5 p.m. Tickets, hot dogs and sodas are all two for the price of one on Sunday.
 
A crew from ESPN will be on hand for the all three games. The sports network is doing a feature story on the affiliation between the Golden Baseball League and the Colombia Professional Baseball League.
 
On the eve of the season opener, the two leagues struck a two-year deal that allowed the CPBL to field a team in the GBL. The players who were to take the field as Scorpions before the arrangement was made were released or allocated to other cities and replaced with CPBL players.
 
Current Scorpions players, staff and fans are expected to be interviewed for the story over the weekend.
 
The Scorpions took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Carlos Arroyo reached on a walk and scored his second run of the game on an Armada error.
 
Villalobos doubled home Arroyo in the top of the first inning.
 
Villalobos went 2-for-5, Arroyo was 1-for-4 and Ismael Castro was 2-for-5. Yuma finished with eight hits.
 
The Armada knotted it at 2 in the bottom half of the frame.
 
Neither team threatened for the next five innings. The Armada left Omar Bramasco stranded at third in bottom of the 10th inning. Bramasco led off with hit to right field off reliever Cristian Mendoza and advanced on a sacrifice bunt and a fielder's choice.
 
Mendoza induced a comebacker to send the game to the 11th frame.
 
Yuma got solid pitching throughout the night. Starter Carlos Ladeuth allowed two earned runs on four hits and five walks in six innings. He also struck out seven. Mendoza and Dorian Castro each pitched two innings in relief.
