ON DECK: Don't be a dope

Will athletes ever learn that using performance enhancing drugs is not OK?

For some reason I still get shocked when a new story emerges about another athlete testing positive — this time it was the cyclist Alberto Contador.

It should be old hat for me now, but I guess my surprise emerges more from their stupidity than anything else.

Let's face it, if you use these banned substances you're going to get caught. I mean, does winning even feel good if you know you've given yourself an advantage over your opponents?

I've never nor will I ever be a pro athlete but I do know that the pressure they face is tremendous. But they should remember they got where they are off of the natural talent they already possess.

Unless of course they were doped up the whole time — then I guess they should thank their lucky stars they made it this far without getting caught.
