Last game: AWC coach Kelly Green was ejected in the Matadors' 72-58 loss to Eastern Utah on Saturday at the Wells Fargo Classic. Glendale scored a season-low 74 points in a 15-point home loss to Howard College last Saturday. Defeated Fullerton 97-70 nine days ago at the Imperial Valley College Tournament.
Records: AWC (12-2 overall, 5-1 Arizona Community College Athletic Conference); Glendale (10-4, 4-2 ACCAC)
Player to watch: Alonzo Brandon is leading the Matadors in scoring (15.1 ppg. ... The Gauchos are led by Lance Fite (13.7 ppg.)
The lowdown: Green serves a 1-game suspension tonight. His absence from the gym means lead assistant Lance Von Vogt will lead the team-just as he did in the second half Saturday. … Except for 2003-04, when the Gauchos swept AWC, this matchup has been owned by AWC - the Matadors have won the last eight meetings. ... The Brazilian Twin Towers of Andre Almeida and Rafael Crescencio are tied atop the ACCAC blocked shots leaders with 3.3 swats per game apiece. They're also tied for 11th in the nation in that category. ... The Gauchos are one of only three conference teams to hit the 10-win plateau already, are one of only two squads scoring over 100 points per game (the other being Cochise), and have attempted nearly 100 more 3-pointers (358 total) than any other team (and 159 more than AWC). ... After leaning on point guard T.J. Campbell last year for scoring, steals, assists, 3-point shooting and free throws (he was among the league leaders in all of them), they're now spreading the wealth. Fite leads three Gauchos scoring in double figures, but he's only at 13.7 points per contest. ... Coach Dave Hodges is in his sixth year with the program; he moved up after one season as an assistant under Howard Brown when Brown left for Yavapai.
