Up three goals with less than eight minutes to play, Kofa boys soccer coach Jamie Nicewander thought it was safe to put in his backups against Gila Ridge.
He was almost wrong.
Gila Ridge scored two late goals, but it wasn't enough in the Kings' 4-3 win over the Hawks Friday.
Jesus Felix had the decisive fourth goal for the Kings. Marvin Garcia had a goal and an assist, and Salvador Ramirez and Danny Urias had goals for the Kings (5-0).
GIRLS PREP SOCCER
Kofa tops Gila Ridge
Brianna Gonzalez had two goals and an assist to lead Kofa to a 6-0 win at Gila Ridge on Friday.
Abigail Rosales had a goal and an assist for the Kings. Maria Lopez, Dania Gomez and Letecia Casillas scored for the Kings as well.
PREP BASKETBALL
AWC Jamboree today
Four local basketball teams will compete in the second annual Arizona Western College High School Basketball Jamboree today.
The Cibola and Gila Ridge girls start the day at 3 p.m., followed by the Raider and Hawk boys at 4:30 p.m. Yuma High and Kofa wrap up the day with the girls at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m.
One $5 ticket grants admission to all four games. Military, seniors and students are $3.
YOUTH BASEBALL
San Pasqual camp Dec. 22
San Pasqual baseball coach will put on a baseball camp Dec. 22 for all Yuma-area baseball players.
The camp is for boys and girls between 7 and 18 years old and will run from 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the San Pasqual baseball fields. The camp costs $25 and includes lunch.
