PREP BASEBALL: Kofa baseball falls at Casa Grande
Casa Grande - The last regular-season baseball game for the Kofa turned into an 11-10 defeat that Casa Grande won in the bottom of the final inning.
Falling behind going into the bottom of the second, Casa Grande responded with a six-run inning, forcing Kofa coach Richy Leon to take out the first of three Kofa pitchers. "On the mound we couldn't stop the bleeding," Leon said. "It was going to be a shootout to see who was going to get the last crack."
When Mark Wright came up with a big two-RBI double to tie the game it looked like the Kings (17-10, 7-5 5A Gila Valley) would be that team. But Casa Grande hit two doubles in the seventh for the winning run.
The Kings were fourth in 5A Division II before this loss and if they remain in the top eight they will host the first round of the postseason on Saturday.

PREP WRESTLING: Raiders earn scholarships
A pair of former Cibola wrestlers will be taking their talents to the collegiate level next season.
Efrain Escudero and Clint Castaneda both signed letters of intent to wrestle for Grand Canyon College and will be part of the first-ever varsity wrestling team at the school, which competes at the Division II level.
Escudero won the 135-pound state title as a Raider in 2005 and was named a JUCO All-American at 158 pounds last season at Pima Community College. He received a full-ride scholarship to join Grand Canyon.
Castaneda is coming off a 125-pound state title last year at Cibola, and will join the Grand Canyon squad on a partial scholarship.
