Chambless falls in state quarterfinals

Cibola's Samantha Chambless was eliminated from the 5A-II girls state tennis tournament in the quarterfinals after a 6-0, 6-0 loss to No. 2 Emily Harris from Scottsdale-Desert Mountain on Friday at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale.

Harris, a senior, only committed three unforced errors and was the state champion as a freshman. She has yet to lose a game in the state tournament.

Chambless was the only local product to reach the quarterfinals of the state tournament.

"The score doesn't tell the whole story," Cibola coach Cam Cong said. "Sam played with her for a while, but even on Sam's good shots (Harris) managed to get a racket on them and return them for points. It was an uphill battle, but Sam definitely competed."
