AWBL sells Yuma Panthers

The American West Baseball League announced Tuesday that it sold the Yuma Panthers.

The Panthers, formerly the Scorpions, were bought by Tim Ferguson, who did not return repeated calls made by the Yuma Sun.

Ferguson was a minor league pitcher in the Montreal Expos' system. An injury derailed his career, and after a 12-year career in the mortgage and real estate industry, he returned to coaching. In 2011 he coached in the Pecos League.

The team did not play in 2012, a decision made by former owner and current AWBL CEO Michael Cummings. The Panthers are expected to be one of the teams to christen the league when it begins in 2013. Other teams listed on the league's website are the Fullerton Flyers, Long Beach Splash and North County Cannons.
