Missed opportunities cost Scorpions
Comments 0 | Recommend 0EDMONTON, Alberta - The Edmonton Cracker Cats scored three times in the sixth inning and went on to deal the Scorpions a 4-1 setback Sunday in Edmonton.
Yuma jumped out to a 1-0 in the second inning when Hector Bernal led off with a base hit and later scored on Darrick Hale's RBI ground out, but the Scorpions stranded two runners in the inning.
With one runner on base in the sixth Edmonton plated a pair with back-to-back doubles by Jose Morban and Joe Jiannetti. Jianetti later stole home to put the 'Cats up 3-1.
Scorpions starter Michael Brandt went five scoreless inning, only allowing three hits in the no-decision.
Edmonton pitcher Chris Cullen picked up the win, going 6 1-3 innings.
Yuma first baseman A.J. Valentine went 3-for-4, while Bernal had a pair of hits. The Scorpions left nine runners on base for the game.
The Scorpions remain north of the border to begin a three-game series against the Calgary Vipers today at 6:05 p.m.
