Marines to host charity tournament
Comments 0 | Recommend 0April 9, 2008 - 8:02PM
Marine Aviation and Logistics Squadron 13 (MALS-13) will host its inaugural AIRSpeed golf outing on Friday, April 18 at the Mesa Del Sol Golf Club. The tournament is open to the public and begins at 11:00 a.m. It will be an 18-hole, 4-person scramble.
Registration is $200 with $5 mulligans. Lunch, raffle prizes and awards are included in the cost. Proceeds from the event will benefit Marine Corp Air Station Yuma's Officer's Spouses Club (OSC).
Lt. Col Guillermo Meza Ortega, Commanding Officer of MALS-13, is looking forward to the tournament despite having to dust off his clubs for the event.
“If I didn't have to work, I'd be a good golfer. But it will still be a great day and a chance to give back to our Marines,” Meza Ortega said.
OSC is comprised of spouses of active duty and retired officers residing in the Yuma area and raises funds for local Marine families. This past holiday season, OSC provided over 400 families with holiday food baskets.
OSC is currently accepting applications for this year's educational scholarship available for Marine dependents.
“OSC is very successful at giving back directly to Marine folks and we are thrilled with the opportunity to support the organization and good works that they do for our Marines,” said Meza Ortega.
The Marines that work in MALS-13 provide aviation logistics support.
Interested golfers may contact Corporal Martin Kennedy at 269-3473 to sign up for the tournament or for more information.
For information on the scholarship, please contact Laura Kline at klineml@yahoo.com. The deadline for the scholarship application is April 15.
