Ploesche's two homer help Matador sweep double-header against Glendale
The Arizona Western softball team had a big day at the plate and easily swept a double-header at home against Glendale.
The Matadors (12-7 overall, 5-1 Arizona Community College Athletic Conference) beat the Gauchos 11-0 in five innings in the first game and 8-1 in the later contest.
Courtnie Ploesche had a big day, combining to go 5 for 6 with two homeruns and 8 RBIs.
Amber Taynton (3-3) pitched all five innings in the first game, scatter four hits while striking out five. Ploesche went 2 for 2 with 4 RBIs — most of which came from a 3-run home run. Myliah Ramirez also went 2 for 2 with a double and a pair of RBIs.
Trish Porter (3-1) got the win in Game 2, going the distance while giving up five hits and striking out six. Ploesche continued to punish Gaucho pitching, going 3 for 4 with another 3-run home run. Tori Rich also went 3 for 4 with a double, RBI to go with a stolen base.
“We saw three different pitchers, and we definitely did a better job of adjusting to the pitchers today. The scores and the number of runs crossing the plate certainly can tell you that,” Matador coach Nikki Bethurum said.
The Matadors will travel to Chandler-Gilbert for a double-header at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
