Three Yuma Catholic girls soccer players earned a spot Monday on the Class 1A/2A/3A All-West Region Team, with a fourth earning honorable mention.

Midfielders Morgan Frank and Ali Quintana and defender Kalaina Barnett earned the top honors. Midfielder Krysta Aitken earned honorable mention.

The No. 12 Shamrocks open play in the 1A/2A/3A playoffs Friday in Phoenix against No. 5 Florence. Last year, YC beat Florence in the first round as a 12-seed to begin its run to the state semifinals.

Rams lose fifth straight

An eight-point River Valley lead at halftime grew to a 61-44 win at Antelope on Monday.

The loss was the fifth in a row for the Rams (4-10), who were led by A.J. Cota’s 17 points. Abel Munoz had 16 and Chris Weimer had nine rebounds.

The Rams play their fourth game in five days today at home against Phoenix Christian.

PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL

River Valley rolls Antelope

Antelope didn’t have an answer for 6-foot-4 Katie Simpson as River Valley topped the Rams 63-39 on Monday.

Katlyn Jones had 19 for the Rams.
