Bullock gets everything in final game except win

COPPERAS COVE, Texas – Reggie Bullock ran for 100 yards for the 15th straight game.

Arizona Western’s sophomore running back also caught two balls, ran for a touchdown and threw for another.

All that was missing for the nation’s leading rusher was a win.

Bullock and the Matadors lost 31-27 Saturday at Bulldawg Stadium to Blinn College.

It’s the second consecutive bowl loss for the Matadors, who fell to Eastern Mississippi in the Mississippi Bowl, 27-24.

"It’s so disappointing because we’ve been working on this since the summer," Bullock said. "Plus the sophomores, we’ve put a lot of hard work into it, and we lost last year to East Mississippi in another. It’s heartbreaking. We’re all hurt."

Bullock’s first passing touchdown as a Matador turned out to be the final score of the game, capping a four minute scoring drive. He took the handoff from quarterback Boomer Green and went right on what seemed to be a sweep before he pulled up and found Jamal Gray for a 23-yard touchdown.

Bullock had fumbled earlier on the drive, but Korian Chambers recovered the ball. Between the fumble and a holding call, the Matadors faced a third-and-30, but Gray caught a 22-yard pass from Green. After an offsides set up fourth-and-3, Green found Ge’shun Harris on a slant.

Bullock said that his touchdown pass felt good.

"It meant a lot because we came back and were still fighting," Bullock said. "Everybody had their hopes up, then the fumble came up and we thought we had it. Everything just went from there and we loss."

Bullock said that the streak of 100-yard games was nice, but credits his offensive line.

"Whatever my linemen allow me to do, I’m happy to have it," Bullock said. "It’s an honor to play behind this line."

AWC coach Tom Minnick said Bullock’s final game was indicative of his season.

"He played like a man, like he has all year," Minnick said. "He goes after it and runs the all hard. He’s a great running back. There’s a lot of scouts out there today that were happy to see him. Probably offer him a scholarship."
