Flyers silence Scorpions

Matt Durkin took a shutout into the eighth inning for Orange County to lead the Flyers past the Scorpions 10-2 on Thursday in both teams' return to action following the All-Star break.
 
Robert Fick was 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBI for the Flyers (1-1 South Division), and Nick Guerra was 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs. Five Flyers had multiple-hit games and seven different players scored on the Scorpions (2-4 South Division) in the two teams' first meeting of the season.
 
Durkin (5-2) handed the Scorpions their fourth straight loss, allowing just five hits and four walks with two strikeouts and one earned run for the complete-game win.
 
Carlos Ladeuth (3-3) lasted 3-1/3 innings before leaving the game, giving up six earned runs on nine hits. Wilton Noel pitched the final 4-2/3 innings.
 
The Flyers led 1-0 after the first inning before busting out of the gates in the fourth with six runs.
 
Carlos Arroyo and Ismael Castro went 2-for-4 for the Scorpions, Castro bringing in both runs with a double in the top of the ninth.
 
Game 2 of the four-game series begins tonight at 7:05 p.m. at Goodwin Field.
